I also liked looking through all the Presidents that were listed in order in the back of the book. One of my favorite parts were the illustrations like the long legs on the Presidents. I liked this book.

I also like the fact section of the book-that was really cool to learn facts about each President. I liked the facts about who were some of the painters during that time-frame. This book helped me see how time has changed the Presidency. The book was very fun to look through all the cartoon depictions of the Presidents. I liked how the illustrations showed off the different features of each President.
As a parent, I LOVE that my children have the opportunity to read about history that is fun and factual. I think it is vital for our children to be well-informed about history, especially the Presidency. So many people don't have a clear understanding about American History and don't know alot about the impact each President has made on this nation. I am so excited that Jane Hampton Cook has given children a fun and engaging opportunity to learn about American Presidents through "What Does the President Look Like?". I highly recommend this book to all families who want a glimpse of how time has changed the Presidency.
This book, written by Presidential historian Jane Hampton Cook, is an excellent book for children interested in art and/or presidential history. The question "What does the President look like?" may seem like an absurdly easy one to answer, but how would one know before invention of photography or television?
Highlighting presidents from Washington to Obama, it also discusses famous artists, cartoonists,and photographers and introduces kids to the growth of media technology from stereography to the internet.
The illustrations bu Adam Ziskie are humorous and engaging. This book would make a great resource for elementary art or history teachers, or a prefect President's Day gift for any up-and-coming artist or historian.
Jane has written a book that is full of fun facts in an area that all kids today seem to be interested in---media! I loved the way she shows the growing impact media has had on politics and who wins office- from the photo Matthew Brady took of Lincoln that was sold in stores prior to his election, to the television debates between Kennedy and Nixon- she points out the impact these new forms of image sharing has had on history.
She also explains how different media works (stereographs, internet, and others) which helps kids understand the technology deeper. Website addresses given in the book provide readers the chance to do further investigation of these various forms of media. What Does the President Look Like? is very accessible reading full of historical facts, yet written in a light and engaging form.
